Why MAUDÉ exists

Fewer coats,

MAUDÉ started with a simple question: how many coats does a woman actually need? Rather than adding models, we chose to narrow the number down — so that each silhouette earns its place in the collection, and each piece stays in a wardrobe longer than one season.

The eye that draws

Paris is where the line gets decided: the length of a coat, the set of a shoulder, the way a belt marks or releases the waist. These are questions of proportion before they're questions of style — decided for a garment that has to be worn first, in a city, every day.

Paris is also where the direction of the house comes together: which materials to use, how many silhouettes to keep, and when a collection should stop rather than expand.

The hand that shapes
the material.

Suzhou is where wool and Inner Mongolia cashmere become a garment. Our partner workshops there handle the yarn, the weaving, the cutting and the assembly — every MAUDÉ coat goes through more than 40 production steps before it's ready to travel.

We've worked with the same workshops from the start, in a direct relationship rather than an anonymous order. It's a choice of proximity, not a line of marketing.

Paris — Suzhou

A house built
across two places.

MAUDÉ doesn't pretend Paris and Suzhou are interchangeable. The two places don't share the same role: one looks at the garment, the other makes it. That clear division — not an opposition — is what gives the house its coherence.

Nothing is designed on one side and simply carried out on the other. The shape of a coat accounts for what the material allows; the material is chosen for the silhouette it needs to hold. Paris and Suzhou answer each other, rather than follow one another.

Fewer silhouettes

Three coats currently make up the collection — Huā Long, Yūn Long, Yūn Court. Not for lack of ideas, but because each one needs a real reason to exist before a fourth is added.

50% wool, 50% Inner Mongolia cashmere: a balance between structure and softness, built for a coat worn through the whole season — not just for a photograph.
